The new Chairman of Vermont’s Republican Party is no stranger to GOP politics. Rob Roper directed Freedom Works, created by former Republican US House Majority Leader Dick Armey as a national organization dedicated to lower taxes and smaller government. Roper also helped run Republican Jack McMullen’s unsuccessful U.S. Senate campaign against Democrat Patrick Leahy in 2004.

Roper lives in Stowe and replaces Jim Barnett, who left the state GOP chairmanship to join the campaign team for Republican Senator John McCain of Arizona.

He spoke with Mitch Wertlieb and says he wants to take Vermont’s Republican Party in a familiar direction:
