Since the 9/11 terrorist attacks there’s been a greater examination of the religion of Islam. What are the tenets of the religion? How does fundamentalist Islam differ from a more liberal interpretation of the Koran?
And could Islam be considered, in some ways, an American religion? That’s a question that Jane Smith has been exploring, and will speak about later today at Middlebury College. Smith is a Professor of Islamic studies at the Hartford Seminary. She spoke with VPR’s Mitch Wertlieb and admits that she has trouble finding the answer to her own question.
Note: Jane Smith will be speaking at 4:30 Thursday at the Robert A. Jones House at Middlebury College.
