Some sobering statistics recently on, ironically, substance abuse in Vermont. The United States Health and Human Service Department, reported Vermont had the highest and second-highest rates of teen alcohol use and binge drinking, respectively in the country.

This is of particular concern to drug and alcohol prevention expert Michael Nerney, who will visit Central Vermont this week to talk about what parents can do to have better dialog with their kids about the dangers of drugs and alcohol.

Nerney says it’s not all that surprising that a state like Vermont has such high levels of substance abuse among young people.

Nerney will be presenting "The Adolescent Brain: Substance Abuse and Risky Behavior" on Tuesday, March 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the Cabot School Library. And again on Wednesday, March 11 at 6:30 p.m. at U-32 High School.
