If there’s a guru of the sustainable agriculture movement, it may be
Michael Abelman. The farmer and author of the books “From the Good Earth” and most recently “Fields of Plenty” will be the keynote speaker tonight at the Vermont Fresh Network’s 11th annual forum at Shelburne Farms.

Abelman is a strong proponent of small farms, and is passionate on the subject of organic farming as a means to a greater goal that moves beyond agriculture and into the realms of energy conservation and social change.

He recently spoke with Mitch Wertlieb and said one problem with organic farming is that it’s too often defined as an industry rather than a movement, even by the people who are practicing it.
