It seems to happen every year around this time. You pull up to the pump and do a double take. That can’t really be the price for a gallon of gas, can it? But it is. Right now in Vermont, gas is at least $3 a gallon, and around much of the country it’s even higher.

That’s prompted Vermont Governor Jim Douglas and 21 other Governors around the country to petition Congress to launch an investigation into why gas prices are so high.

Joe Choquette is a spokesman for the Vermont Petroleum Association. He spoke with VPR’s Mitch Wertlieb about rising prices.
