Guiding Israelis and Palestinians to a peace accord is, to put it mildly, a difficult task.

Later this month, President Obama will meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to get the stalled peace process moving again, but advocates for Palestinian rights in Israel feel the newly elected Netanyahu is a hard line politician unconcerned with bridging the divide or granting autonomy to Palestinians.

But Jimmy Johnson believes the distrust between many Israelis and Palestinians goes well beyond who’s running the government.

Johnson is a researcher for The Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions, a non-profit organization that fights to keep Palestinians in the occupied territories from losing their homes.

Johnson will be in Montpelier tonight as part of a national speaking tour. His perspective is that of an American Jew who’s been living and working in Israel for the past 5 years, and his core message, he says, is non-partisan, and universal.
