A concert in Montpelier this evening will celebrate the life of Vermont singer/songwriter Rachel Bissex. Bissex died of breast cancer in February of 2005.

Tonight’s concert will benefit the newly established “Rachel Bissex White Light Fund”, named after the title of Bissex’s final album, “In White Light.” The fund will help to nurture and support up-and-coming musical talent.

Appearing will be musicians Jim Photoglo of Nashville, and Freebo, who is based in Los Angeles. Freebo is perhaps best known as the long-time bassist for singer-songwriter Bonnie Raitt.

Neal Charnoff met up with Freebo in VPR’s Montpelier studios and asked him how he came to know Rachel Bissex.
