In 2003, journalist Christina Asquith traveled to Baghdad, and spent two years reporting on the Iraq war.
As the conditions for journalists deteriorated, Asquith hid with an Iraqi family, and was given a close-up look at how the war affected their lives.
Asquith recounts this time period in a new book, "Sisters In War", published by Random House Books. It follows the experiences of four women…two Iraqi sisters, one U.S. soldier and a U.S aid worker.
Their stories offer a glimpse into the choices and challenges women face in Iraq.
Christina Asquith teaches about women in Islam at the University of Vermont. She spoke with VPR’s Neal Charnoff.
