For better or for worse, author Steve Almond claims to have eaten a piece of candy every day in his life. Almond has embraced his obsession by writing the new memoir “Candyfreak: A Journey Through the Chocolate Underbelly of America.” The book recounts his quest to discover candy’s origins here, and describes his visits to the unsung independent candy companies across the country. Neal Charnoff talks with Almond about what it means to be a “Candyfreak.” (To hear the interview, click on the “Listen” icon.)

Note:
“Candyfreak” is published by Algonquin Books. Steve Almond is a former journalist whose previous book is called “My Life in Heavy Metal,” and he’s also a regular commentator for WBUR in Boston.

Almond will be appearing at Barnes and Noble in South Burlington Monday evening at 7 p.m., and at Northshire Bookstore in Manchester Center, Tuesday evening at 7 p.m.
