When the Academy awards are presented this Sunday night, one former Vermonter will be in the audience hoping for an Oscar himself. Jon Killik, the producer of best-picture nominated “Babel,” is a 1978 graduate of the University of Vermont, where he studied film-making and production.

“Babel” weaves together four stories of fate and circumstance, and has been heralded for its use of globe-trotting locations and an international cast.

Kilik has been a co-producer on more than two dozen major Hollywood releases. And he’s received Oscar nominations for the films “Dead Man Walking” and “Before Night Falls.”
