Journalist Michael Hastings began his writing career in the Green Mountains, at Rice High School in South Burlington. At the age of 25, he became one of the youngest reporters working in Baghdad, on assignment for Newsweek Magazine. Before he left for Iraq, Hastings had fallen in love with Andi Parhamovich, a publicist who eventually joined him in Iraq. Their war-torn romance was shattered when Parhamovich was killed there in an ambush.

Michael Hastings recounts this story in the book, "I Lost My Love In Baghdad." The book is an account of Hastings war reporting, and a remembrance of the young woman who lost her life to the war.

Michael Hastings now lives in Washington, DC. He spoke with VPR’s Neal Charnoff about his book.

"I Lost My Love In Baghdad" is published by Scribner Books. A portion of the author’s proceeds will benefit "The Andi Foundation".

Note: Hastings will be appearing at Border’s Books in Burlington, Saturday afternoon at 2.
