Officials say the International Paper plant in Ticonderoga, N.Y., is considering another plan to burn tire chips as a way to reduce its fuel costs.

Less than a year after the company shut down a test-burn of tire chips because of high levels of pollutants that were being released into the atmosphere.

Spokeswoman Donna Wadsworth says the company is considering buying pollution control devices to reduce the amount of pollutants that would be emitted.

The plant says burning tire chips could help it reduce its fuel costs.

The earlier efforts by the plant were opposed by many Vermonters, including Gov. Jim Douglas. The plant is located on the western shore of Lake Champlain, upwind of Addison County and other parts of Vermont.
