Inn Workers File Labor Complaint Against Dartmouth

Unionized workers at the Hanover Inn say Dartmouth College has refused to negotiate their contract, an allegation the college calls simply false.

The union representing 65 workers at the college-owned hotel has filed a complaint with the National Labor Relations Board saying the college hasn’t considered the union’s proposals or offered any of its own. Union President Earl Sweet says the college also refuses to allow the existing contract to remain in effect when it expires in July.

The union is trying to negotiate contracts for inn workers and 500 others that avoid significant layoffs as the college cuts its budget by $100 million over two years. But the college says none of the union’s proposals reflect an understanding of that financial challenge.
