Officials in Manchester are mulling a municipal budget proposal that could, if approved, result in a decrease in the municipal tax rate.

Town Manager John O’Keefe says rising property assessments on some parcels will more than cover rising expenses in his proposed 2009 budget.

He says it sounds too good to be true, but that given a 10 to 20 percent increase in the town’s total assessed valuation, the tax rate could actually come down.

The town has scheduled an open meeting to discuss the fiscal year 2009 budget for next Wednesday.
