In FEMA Inspections, No Detail Too Small

Hundreds of Vermonters are going through the process of seeking federal help in recovering from flooding related to Tropical Storm Irene.

James Shene got only about an inch of water in his rented trailer, but it was enough to make a soggy mess of his belongings and prompt him to reach out to the Federal Emergency Management Agency for help.

Last week, Shene applied to FEMA for individual assistance for damages suffered during Tropical Storm Irene, says he wants a hand up not a handout.

On Tuesday, a FEMA inspector went to his Lyndonville home to check out the damage, get supporting documents and interview Shene. Many Vermonter are going through a similar process and are now waiting to see how much money they’ll receive.
