Former Clinton aide Harold Ickes and former Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk say they won’t be running for chairman of the Democratic National Committee. Both men were considered major challengers to the candidacy of former Vermont Governor Howard Dean.

Among the others who have indicated interest: former Indiana Representative Tim Roemer, former Michigan Governor Jim Blanchard, former Texas Democratic chair Molly Beth Malcolm and Democratic activist Donnie Fowler.

Democrats will elect a party chair at the party’s winter meeting in February.
