Vermont’s health care regulators have made slight reductions to the rate increases sought by some of the state’s hospitals. The Department of Banking, Insurance, Securities and Health Care Administration is responsible for setting annual hospital budgets.

Late on Wednesday, Commissioner John Crowley announced reductions in the rate increases sought by Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, the Rutland Regional Medical Center, Central Vermont Medical Center and the Northwestern Medical Center in Saint Albans. In the case of Fletcher Allen Health Care, the state’s largest hospital, Crowley reduced its rate increase from the 10 percent it requested, to 9 percent.

The commissioner approved budgets for nine other hospitals.
