Hodes calls on Hannaford to provide free credit monitoring services

New Hampshire Congressman Paul Hodes is requesting that the Hannaford grocery chain provide free credit monitoring to the millions of customers whose credit and debit card information were stolen.

About $4.2 million credit and debit card numbers were exposed and at least 1,800 stolen during the seconds it takes for that information to travel to credit card companies for approval after customers swiped their cards in checkout-line machines.

Hodes says Hannaford must compensate those New Hampshire citizens who entrusted their personal information to the company by ensuring they don’t fall victim to the crime of identity theft.

He says he will work with the company and members of the congressional delegation to ensure that there is a proper investigation of this breach.

Hodes serves on the House Financial Services Committee and he also sits on the House Government Oversight Committee, both of which have the ability to investigate the breach further.
