High School students hope to change sports rules

In most high schools sports programs around the country, you’ll find among the basketball, football, and baseball teams, a track and cross country team.

But not in Vermont. It’s not that track and cross country races aren’t run in some of the state’s high schools, it’s just that under current rules put forth by the VPA-the Vermont Principal’s Association, track and cross country are considered individual-not team sports.

Two students from Montpelier want to change that, and will make an appeal tomorrow to the VPA. Liam McSweeney and Chris Keller run cross country, a sport McSweeney says is no longer available to them in Montpelier:
