Health officials testing Vermonters for swine flu

Health officials say they’re testing a few Vermonters to determine whether they’ve come down with swine flu.

Tests through Tuesday have been negative for the strain of the disease that has been spreading around the world.

It takes time for tests to be completed and any results have to be confirmed by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control.

The Vermont Health Department says it tests only some of the people who have flu-like symptoms. Those are patients who either have recently visited an area that’s affected by swine flu, or have had contact with someone who is believed to have the disease.

Health Commissioner Wendy Davis says now that cases have been confirmed in Massachusetts, Vermont will have to be even more vigilant.
