Vermont health officials investigating an outbreak of Legionnaire’s disease in Waterbury say four cooling towers are probably to blame. Health Commissioner Jan Carney says officials are still waiting for more test results and might never be completely sure exactly where the infections came from. But Carney says she believes this month’s outbreak of the respiratory disease was related to the cooling towers at the state complex in Waterbury.

Eighteen people have been diagnosed with Legionnaire’s disease in the Waterbury area since August 1. Eleven others have been diagnosed with a milder, related infection. One person is still hospitalized.
