The Vermont Health Department is warning people about an outbreak of measles in Montreal.

The Health Department says there have been 14 cases of measles in Montreal since April 19th.

There have been no cases of measles in Vermont associated with the Montreal outbreak.

But given how close Vermont is to Montreal, Health Department officials are asking health care providers to consider measles if they see patients with a fever and rash.

Measles is a highly contagious disease, but a vaccine introduced in 1963 has made it extremely rare.

For every 1,000 cases of measles, one to two people who contract it will die.
