The state Health Department wants Vermonters to be aware that a nationwide recall of some products that contain peanut butter has expanded to include some types of pet food.

National retailer PetSmart, which has one Vermont store in Williston, has voluntarily recalled "Grreat Choice" brand dog biscuits that contain peanut paste.

The Health Department says major national brands of peanut butter in jars are not affected by the recalls.

To date there have been 488 cases of people who suffered from a specific type of salmonella in 43 states, including four cases in Vermont. Two of the Vermont cases were hospitalized and are recovering.

For a list of products affected by the recall Vermonters can visit the Web site of the Food and Drug Administration.
