The executive director of the Vermont Criminal Justice Training Council, which manages the Vermont Police Academy, has resigned.

R.J. Elrick resigned Thursday, a day after he submitted a resignation letter.

His departure was announced by Rutland County Sheriff Stephen P. Benard, chairman of the council, in an e-mail.

Benard declined to comment on why Elrick stepped down.

Elrick’s resignation comes seven months after the council’s training and curriculum development director, Kevin A. Almquist, resigned as he faced an investigation for a personnel matter.

Benard says Col. James Baker, the recently retired Vermont State Police director, has tentatively accepted the job of interim executive director.
