A school building in Haverhill, New Hampshire has been shut down because it has become unsafe for students.

Haverhill Cooperative Middle School was closed indefinitely yesterday. School officials are trying to find another place to teach the school’s 320 students.

District officials said they noticed problems with roof supports over the school’s gym and cafeteria over the summer. They said metal plates that hold the roof beams together are coming apart.

Contractors fixed the problem in that roof, but officials said there are still many other problems with the trusses in parts of the school, including in the roofs over two classroom wings.

The district has already spent more than $300,000 on repairs, and it plans to ask taxpayers for another $2 million in October.
