Gunman Opens Fire During Montreal Victory Speech

One man is dead and another critically injured after a gunman open fired in a Montreal theater late Tuesday night, during a political victory speech.

Montreal Premier-elect Pauline Marois was ushered off the stage by bodyguards in the midst of her speech, after winning yesterday’s historic election.

The Montreal Gazette reports the gunman was quickly apprehended.

Marois was not injured and she retook the stage a short time later.

Parti Quebecois Leader Pauline Marois will become Quebec’s first female premier. And her election ends nearly a decade of Liberal rule.

Marois replaces outgoing Liberal Party premier Jean Charest who lost his seat in the riding of Sherbrooke to another Parti Quebecois candidate.
