The Vermont State Police in Middlebury will lose two of their troopers when the Vermont National Guard deploys troops later this month. Their one-year absence will force state police resources to be stretched further.

There are already 35 trooper vacancies throughout the state. Seven new troopers will soon be ready to leave the state’s training academy, but the next class won’t graduate for another six months.
