State and federal help could be on the way to ease the pain for 300 mill workers about to lose their jobs in Groveton, New Hampshire.

Officials at the Wausau Paper mill in Groveton announced Tuesday that the mill will close at the end of the year. They blame rising costs and less demand for paper.

Groveton is across the Connecticut River from Maidstone, Vermont.

New Hampshire Governor John Lynch is mobilizing the state’s Rapid Response Team to meet with mill workers and begin providing job training and placement assistance. The state also is working to help attract a new company to the Wausau site.
