Groups Say Wind Power Project Will Harm Streams

Groups opposed to Green Mountain Power’s wind project planned Lowell Mountain say it’ll hurt mountain streams and cause erosion.

The Vermont Natural Resources Council, Energize Vermont and other groups are criticizing a draft state water quality permit issued by the state Agency of Natural Resources.

The groups say GMP’s plans to prevent erosion depend on experimental technology which has failed elsewhere. They also maintain storm water runoff is underestimated in the draft permit.

GMP spokeswoman Dorothy Schnure says what the groups call experimental is the most appropriate technology for the site.

She adds that water quality will be monitored during the construction and operation of the project.
