A nonprofit group is trying to raise $200,000 by the end of next week to create a temporary place to stay for homeless veterans living on the streets of Central Vermont.

If the people involved with The Veterans’ Place, Inc., can raise the money by April 4 they will qualify for a $400,000 grant from the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Barre minister Ralph Howe says the objective is to provide the veterans a transitional facility that will give them time to find permanent housing.

Many businesses and construction workers have pledged services, be it plumbing, drywall or architectural drawings.

The Veterans’ Place estimates there are about 30 homeless veterans living in and around Barre and Montpelier.
