An environmental group says state Senate President Pro Tem Peter Shumlin and state Rep. Tony Klein are tops in Montpelier when it comes to environmental and conservation issues.

In an annual scorecard released Thursday, the Vermont League of Conservation Voters rated lawmakers on their votes on bills dealing with groundwater, energy efficiency and financial guarantees for the Vermont Yankee nuclear plant.

Shumlin, a Windham Democrat, and Klein, an East Montpelier Democrat, were named environmental champions by the group.
