Homeless veterans will be getting some help finding a place to live in Vermont thanks to a grant from the Department of Veterans Affairs.

The Phoenix Houses of New England will use the VA money to provide transitional housing at its 16-bed facility in Bellows Falls.

Phoenix House of New England operates 13 residential substance abuse treatment facilities in Vermont.

Phoenix House Vice President Patrick McEneaney says the VA grants will be for up to six individuals per night.

The VA’s Pete Dougherty says the grants will be up to $33 per bed per night.

Dougherty says Vermont was targeted because it was one of three states that does not have a transitional program in place for homeless vets.
