Gregg, Sununu oppose economic stimulus proposal

In New Hampshire, Senators Judd Gregg and John Sununu joined fellow Republicans in opposing the proposed economic stimulus package. The Republicans say a number of provisions added to the bill made it more expensive.

Gregg said the add-ons by the Senate Finance Committee won’t stimulate the economy, but simply will add to the costs future generations will bear down the road.

Sununu said he’s a big supporter of the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, but he was offended that such funds were slipped into the bill at the last minute without a vote simply to buy more support. He called backroom dealing on a bill of such importance to the country disgraceful.
