Green Up Day Celebrates 40th Anniversary

Today is Earth Day, and an anniversary of sorts, as the first Earth Day was celebrated 40 years ago.

It was also 40 years ago that Vermonters ventured out into their various communities to pick up trash and "Green Up" the state.

Since then, the first Saturday in May has become a regular exercise in civic pride as volunteers from all over the state come out to clean up the environment.

After four decades of Green Up Day we’re checking in this Earth Day with Melinda Vieux, President of Green-Up Vermont, to find out how the very first Green-Up Day came about, and how it’s changed over time.
