Green Mountain National Forest To Open Trails

Green Mountain National Forest will open its snowmobile trails starting Wednesday, weather permitting.

Forest Supervisor Jer Marr says the trails will be open through April 15, as long as conditions allow. The trails are operated and maintained by the Vermont Association of Snow Travelers. Riders are encouraged to be careful on ponds and waterways, since ice depths are marginal this early in the season.

Some trails are closed for safety reasons. As of Friday, they were: Ten Kilns Trail, in Mt. Tabor; Blue Ridge and The Darning Needle, in Chittenden; Quarry, in Leicester; Boyden Brook, in Hancock; and Perry Basin, in Granville.

Marr says snowmobilers must wear helmets, register their vehicles, display a Trails Maintenance Assessment and have proof of liability insurance.
