A Burlington group is offering $500 grants for the creation of new community gardens in Vermont.

Executive director of Friends of Burlington Gardens Jim Flint says the group has 10 grants available. They’re underwritten by a $10,000 grant from the Jan and David Blittersdorf Foundation.

The money can be used for site preparation, fencing and signs.

To qualify, the garden site must be 2,500 square feet or more in area and provide at least ten plots for local residents to grow fresh vegetables.

The deadline for proposals is August 1st , with final plans due August 8th. The grants will be awarded September 4th.
