(Host) The Grammy Awards Foundation announced another round of music awards last week. These Grammys went to high schools that offer excellent music education. Among the 50 national winners is Harwood Union High School in Duxbury.

About 20,000 applied for the honor. The Grammy Foundation narrowed down the field to 100 semifinalists. Despite the stiff competition, Harwood music teacher Bruce Sklar says winning awards isn’t everything:

(Sklar) “You know, awards, etcetera, etcetera – these things are wonderful, but you can’t expect these things to happen every year, for one reason or another. The most important thing is the quality of the program stays high, that the incoming students know what to expect, that they will have the ability to have a wonderful experience.”

(Host) Harwood Union’s music department will receive a one-thousand dollar prize along with a plaque from the Grammy Awards Foundation. Sklar says the money will go toward purchasing a new piano for the school.
