The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Burlington collected more than $3 million in the last year from actions in the state.

Officials could not say whether the amount was greater or less than previous years.

But U.S. Attorney Thomas D. Anderson says that the recoveries will directly benefit many people and entities including those most directly affected by crimes.

Between Oct. 1, 2006, and Sept. 30, 2007, the office collected $1.8 million in civil judgments, $432,000 in forfeitures from real estate, automobile and currency seizures in drug cases and $1.1 million in criminal fines, special assessments and restitutions.

About $127,000 of the fines has been deposited into a fund that helps victims of crimes and 80 percent of forfeitures will go to local and state law enforcement agencies.
