Green Mountain Power won permission from state regulators to lower the premium for its "GreenerGMP program by one cent per kilowatt hour.

Customers enrolled in the program voluntarily pay an extra three cents per kilowatt hour on their electric bill to support renewables.

Dorothy Schnure is with Green Mountain Power.

(Schnure) "While we certainly hope that more people are able to take advantage of the lower price. It’s really driven by the fact that we’re offering this program to customers pretty much at the cost that it costs us to get the power.”

(Host) The extra money that Green Mountain charges is used to support renewable energy projects.

Those include a methane gas project at the Moretown landfill and biomass at the McNeil plant in Burlington, which burns wood chips.
