GMP Touts Growth In Customers’ Renewable Power

Vermont’s second-largest power company says generation of renewable energy by its customers is on the rise.

Green Mountain Power says solar is leading the way as customers are generating more than twice as much power as they did in 2008.

Customers who want to generate their own solar, wind biomass, hydro or other renewable energy can participate in net metering. That lets customers generate their own electricity and ship extra power back to the utility to lower the customer’s bill.

Currently, close to 300 GMP customers have applied for and received state permission for net metering.
