Green Mountain Power has been on a campaign to save electricity – especially in its information technology room, and says it has cut its power bill by over 16 percent.
GMP says it worked with Shelburne-based Kilowatt Technologies to use a wide range of techniques. They included everything from developing sophisticated control algorithms of the building’s energy momentum to simply moving thermostats away from the hot exhaust fans at the backs of the computer servers.
GMP also is keeping indoor air at a comfortable temperature by mixing cold outside air with heat generated by computers and the people in the company’s Colchester headquarters.
