Given economy, Lynch skips inaugural balls

New Hampshire Governor John Lynch has decided to forgo the tradition of holding inaugural balls next month.

When he won his first two terms, Lynch celebrated with two inaugural balls, one in Manchester and one in the North Country. But Lynch says it doesn’t seem like the right thing to do this time given the sad state of the economy.

Other traditions will continue, however, when Lynch takes the oath of office January 8th, including a breakfast for state workers, the noontime inaugural ceremony in Representatives Hall and a reception afterward in the Executive Council chambers.
