Gephardt aide’s comment angers union leaders

Two union leaders say a Missouri-based aide to Democratic presidential candidate Dick Gephardt should be fired. They claim Joyce Aboussie threatened retaliation against Missouri state employees if the unions help Howard Dean in that state’s presidential primary.

The complaints come from Andrew Stern, head of the Service Employees International Union, and Gerald McEntee, who leads the American Federation of State, County and Municipal employees. Both unions have endorsed Dean for president.

Aboussie says she expressed her belief that people in Missouri Democratic politics are upset by the Dean endorsements. Aboussie says: “If anyone felt threatened by what I said, I apologize.”
