Gas prices down, but still ahead of 2007

Finally there’s a bit of good news for Vermont motorists at the gas pump.

Gasoline prices have fallen about 43 cents a gallon since their midsummer peak.

But gas is still almost a third more expensive than it was a year ago.

AAA says gas prices peaked in Vermont in late June, at $4.09 a gallon.

Last week the average was $3.66.

The decline in prices is welcome news to people who drive a lot, but experts say it isn’t likely to be enough to get people to abandon recently learned gas saving habits.

Still, Vermont is better off than most other states.

Statistics show that Vermonters pay the 11th lowest price for gas in the country.
