Blood from the University of Vermont student murdered almost two weeks ago has been found on the pants of the prime suspect in her disappearance and death.

An affidavit filed by prosecutors says the blood was found on the blue jeans of 36-year-old Brian L. Rooney. The affidavit says a Vermont State Police analysis showed the blood matched Gardner-Quinn’s.

Rooney’s attorney David Sleight told the Associated Press about the connection, not realizing the information was meant to be kept confidential.

Rooney is facing multiple counts of sexual assault in separate cases that grew out of the investigation into the death of Gardner-Quinn.

He is being held without bail.
