The funeral service was held today in Essex Junction for the 29-year-old Starksboro soldier killed in Iraq on November 15th.
US Army Captain Pierre Piche was killed when the helicopter he was in went down.
He was the fifth Vermonter killed in Iraq.
Piche’s mother said he was proud to serve his country and had a deep dedication to leaving the world a better place.
He had planned to leave the Army after his deployment in Iraq was over to become a teacher.
