Four drivers have been ticketed for trying to drive through the closed Smugglers’ Notch section of Route 108 from Stowe to Jeffersonville.

The mountain pass was closed last week until spring when recent snows made it impassable.

Police say they were called to the notch Friday evening when a Quebec man tried to drive through and slid into a guardrail.

Joel Pinsky of Montreal was fined $199.

As police were on the scene of the accident, three other drivers attempted to drive through the notch and also were fined, state police said.
