A former University of Vermont hockey star is suing the university claiming he was unfairly cut from the team.

Justin Milo is seeking unspecified damages in a federal lawsuit filed last week in Burlington.

In the suit, the 24-year-old Milo said the decision to cut him in February 2010 deprived him of his scholarship, his reputation and a promising career.

According to the Rutland Herald, the UVM head coach told Milo he was being cut because of his attitude and lack of commitment.

Milo now plays in the ECHL, a mid-level professional hockey league.

University officials said the school has yet to be formally served with the complaint.
