Former lawmaker appointed head of state’s Farm Service Agency

A New Haven farmer and former state lawmaker is going to become the state executive director of the federal Farm Service Agency.

Harvey Smith will oversee federal programs designed to improve the economic stability of the agricultural industry in Vermont.

Smith lives and farms in New Haven. He used to be a dairy farmer and he now raises soybeans and forage crops.

During eight years in the Legislature, Smith served on the House Agriculture Committee.
