(Host) State Auditor Tom Salmon says he will plead guilty next month to a charge of driving under the influence.

Salmon held a news conference Friday and delivered a wide-ranging speech that focused on issues of personal responsibility.

He apologized to Vermonters for what he said was a mistake of judgment last week.

(Salmon) "On December 3rd I will go into a court of law. I will look the judge in the eye and I will look Vermonters in the eye and will say I’m guilty of DUI 1."

(Host) Salmon acknowledged having five drinks during a three hour dinner and then getting behind the wheel to drive home to St. Johnsbury.

(Salmon) "I had two red wines, I had two Scotch before dinner, and one of those coffee drinks with Kahlua or liqueur in it."

(Host) Salmon has said a breath test showed he had a blood alcohol content of .086 – just over the legal limit for drivers.
